Foundation Learning courses are designed to give you the skills to progress to Level 2.
You will usually study Sport from September and then Public Services from January.
Sport: You will play sport in our sports complex and take part in fitness activities. You will study the sport and leisure industry and learn about starting work in sport, the healthy body and effective teamwork.
You will study the sport and leisure industry and you will also have the opportunity to play sport in our sports facilities. You will study functional skills in English and maths.

Public Services: Experienced tutors with a service background will provide you with the knowledge you'll need to work towards a career in the armed forces and emergency services. Visiting speakers from various areas of the uniformed services will give lectures and provide practical training sessions.

For players who are selected to join our academy varsity program (first team), the cost of tuition for this course is FREE.
For players who join our academy development team, there may be a nominal fee of £85 towards the costs of tracksuits and uniforms.
To join our academy, you must first attend a trial to have your basketball technical and athletic ability assessed by our coaching staff.
If successful, you do not need any previous academic qualifications to join the foundation sport level 1 course, however you will have an assessment carried out by West Thames College staff prior to full acceptance onto the course.
If you complete all the modules you can go on to the BTEC Level 2 BTEC Diploma in Sport or Uniformed Public Services.

This is a practical work-related course combined with projects and assignments. You will learn about anatomy and physiology, practical sport and development of personal fitness. You will complete projects and assignments based on realistic workplace situations. Additional units may include health and fitness and IT for sport. The course is equivalent to 4 GCSEs at A*-C and provides a good basis for further qualifications.
If you are doing an Apprenticeship in Sport, this qualification will form the Technical Certificate component of the framework.
Successful completion of this course can be positively included as part of your academic entry requirements for US colleges.
You will also study functional skills in English and maths. You will be expected to wear a college sport kit.
For players who are selected to join our academy varsity program (first team), the cost of tuition for this course is FREE.
For players who join our academy development team, there may be a nominal fee of £85 towards the costs of tracksuits and uniforms.

When you complete the course you could look at work in the sport and leisure industry, such as a gym assistant or sports coach. If your grades are at a suitable level you can progress to the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport.
Two units are externally assessed via a multi-choice exam. Other units will be assessed by a series of assignments, with both practical and theory elements. Each assignment is graded pass, merit or distinction and the grades will contribute towards your overall result. Functional skills will be assessed via an external exam.

This two-year course is equivalent to 3 A Levels and will enable you to enter a degree programme at university or employment in the sports and leisure industry. It covers anatomy, physiology, psychology, sports nutrition, sports coaching, fitness testing and individual exercise. There will be visits to sporting venues and centres of sporting excellence.
Successful completion of this course can be positively included as part of your academic entry requirements for US colleges and universities.
The course combines practical and academic study. You will complete 18 sports related vocational units over the two years.

There will be an additional 9 specialist units and you will study functional skills in English and maths.
This course consists of the 90-credit Diploma in Year 1 followed by the Extended Diploma in Year 2.

If you meet the athletic and technical standard required to join our basketball academy, you will need at least 4 GCSEs at grades A*-C / grades 9-4, or a merit or distinction at Level 2 with functional skills in English and maths to join this course.
