U14 GIRLS WIN GCBL CHAMPIONSHIP

NAILA MATATA HEADLINES AS PANTHERS PROVE TOO STRONG FOR KNIGHTS

BRENT PANTHERS 77
LONDON KNIGHTS 34

The Panthers U14 girls team completed a successful 2023/24 season with a well-earned victory against the London Knights in the GCBL Playoff Finals, securing the GCBL Championship and establishing themselves as the best team in the league this season.

The Panthers girls have been dominant in the GCBL all season long, finishing the campaign with 7 wins and only 1 loss.  Whenever at full-strength, the Panthers have had too many points of attack for the GCBL teams to handle - which was the case once again in the final.

Led by Naila Matata (17 points) and Narini 'Naz' Kuwana (18 points), the Panthers girls put on an offensive display against the Knights that was just too much to contain.  Kuwana rained in three 3-pointers, in addition to number of dribble drive layups enroute to her game-high 18 point outing.  However it was Matata's defence (6 steals) and ability to create points for her teammates (5 assists) that earned her the game MVP award.

Demi-Leigh Lewis also played an exception game, controlling the offence and proving difficult to stop with her vastly improved ball handling and controlled drives to the basket.  With Sapphie Guidolin-Duncan dominating the glass and rejecting shot after shot on defence, the Panthers end result never looked in doubt.

Another great win for the girls, which Coach Swift (finally) seemed pleased about:

"It was a good win and the girls deserved it for all the work they have put in this season.  When they are all playing together and supporting each other like they did today, they are a tough match up for anyone in their age group.  I'm proud of them all and hope they are all aware of how great they can be if they continue to work for one another and continue to push each other to be the best versions of themselves as teammates on and off the court." - Coach Swift

GCBL Finals MVP: Naila Matata
