Panthers U14 completed they most successful season in their short history by going one better than last season and finally winning the CBL Prime (Division 1) crown in an entertaining game against the London Sharks, in London's biggest grassroots league by a score of 87-67.
The U14's qualified for the finals after a tough quarterfinal match up vs Southwark Legends and then overcoming West London arch-rival Chiswick Gators - ensuing their road to glory was anything but easy. However this group has been nothing short of special all season long, as proven in the National League, winning promotion to the Premier Division after dominating the NBL London Conference.
Their reward was a finals showdown with the Uber-talented London Sharks, featuring the National League Premier Final 4 MVP, Leo Bowman. Bowman came into the game with a reputation as one of the top young players in London and he certainly didn't disappoint in this game. The athletic wing gave the Panthers all they could handle, all game long, finishing with an incredible 42 point personal haul.
However, Panthers Daniel Oronsaye has been steadily 'coming of age' all season long and would not be denied on this day, leading his Brent squad to victory with a strong personal performance of 27 points, 6 assists and 4 steals to pace the Panthers attack. Oronsaye was well supported, as ever, by his backcourt partner Josiah Bosire-Dixon who piled in 18 points of his own.
Overall, the balanced attack from Albie Wadell, Mo Novolani and the impressive Jayden Chan proved too much for the defiant Sharks and at times overwhelmed the South Londoners. The Panthers press and transition game was in full-effect all game and despite the outstanding individual performance of Bowman, it was Brent who ultimately proved to be the best team in the division, sealed with a well-earned championship sealing win.
For his efforts, Oronsaye was awarded the game MVP, but the overall win was a total team effort and brings to an end a successful season for the rapidly rising Panthers.
