COACH BIO:

JAY 'JUNIOR' WILLIAMS

Senior Coach Jay Williams  brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the LSB and is well-positioned to provide guidance, leadership and informed support for aspiring players who are interested in finding out just how good they can be.

Widely respected at all levels throughout the game, Coach Williams has the added advantage of having experienced all levels of the game as both a successful player and proven coach.

As an England U18 international, Williams was regarded as the best point guard of his generation, averaging 28ppg in the National League, before being recruited to play in America on full athletic scholarship at a National championship winning team, Oklahoma City University.

While at OCU, Williams was named team-captain and led the team through to the SAC conference regular and post-season playoff championships and then through to the National Elite 8, distinguishing his squad as one of the top 8 teams in America.

Known for his strong leadership, passing and shooting skills, Williams drove OCU to 4 winning seasons against nationally ranked competition, while earning a BA (Hons) degree in Criminal Justice.

As the leading English Universities point guard of the time, Williams was selected to represent the country in the World University Games in Beijing, China, where he was again named captain.

After a successful college career, which also saw him graduate with a degree in Criminal Justice, BA (Hons), Williams was selected to play professionally in the BBL for the London Towers, later moving on to also play for Crystal Palace, London United, Scottish Rocks and finally the London Lions over a 6 year professional career.

During his time as a pro, Williams established himself as  one of the top British point guards in the league while leading his teams to on-court success, being crowned a BBL Play-Off winner and BBL Cup runner up, during his tenure.

After a highly successful playing career Williams, moved on to establish himself as one of the brightest coaching minds in all of Britain and has been heavily involved in the talent development of many of Britain's top players.  He has served as the head coach of BBL Trophy National Champions, London City Royals while being named BBL Coach Of The Month.  Williams also served as a lead assistant coach at the London Lions and assistant coach for the Great Britain National Team.  He has also served as head coach for the London Regional U17 team, which he led to a national championship. Williams has also won the National League 'Coach Of The Year' award twice while leading the Westminster Warriors (National League Men's Division) to successive league championships.  Williams has also been recognised as one of the brightest emerging coaches in the game, earning the 'All England Regional Coach Award' from the National Governing Body.

Well connected and universally respected, Williams also advises into the National Talent Player Pathway, helping identify talent for National Teams and prestigious summer elite camps such as the Deng Top 50, run by Britain's most successful player of all time, Luol Deng.  He has also served as a successful coach, ambassador and talent advisor to the Jordan Brand International Camp, while working closely with Nike and Brand Jordan as a specially appointed development coach, recognised by the greatest player of all-time, Michael Jordan.

Williams has also served as the head coach for the UK's highest profile summer travel team, Midnight Madness, which provides increased international profile and career development opportunities for top players across the country.  Taking players across the world, Williams has coached British players in tournaments in Paris (France), Los Angeles (USA), Madeira (Portugal) and the Caribbean - helping many of them take the next step in their careers in finding new teams.  He has also been one of the key coaches in helping many British players with scholarships to the USA, drawing upon his extensive network of contacts to help place talented players over in America.
