CBL GAMES SUSPENSION EXTENDED THROUGH UNTIL MAY 31ST
Following on from the initial game suspension announced on 12th March because of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, the Community Basketball League has officially extended the suspension of all games today, through until the end of May. The CBL is deeply committed to protecting the health, safety and well-being of all players, parents, coaches, officials and supporters of our league and we place the highest priority in taking all precautions around when and how we may resume competitive play, in line with government advice. While we have stopped short of completely ending the whole season, we do so knowing we have some flexibility in potentially completing the playoffs, which remain unplayed, in June or potentially early July - if it is safe to do so.
This announcement, however, does not assume or guarantee we will be able to resume competitions at that time, as the league will continue to monitor the situation on a daily basis and closely follow the guidelines and direction from the government and public health officials alongside the wider governance of our sport.
Whatever the outcome in relation to the playoffs, all London Cup competitions for this season have been cancelled. The London Cup will launch again next season, providing it is safe to do so.
If the playoffs prove unplayable, final league positions from regular season play will determine division champions and awards will be rewarded for teams and season MVP's accordingly, in June. We hope to be able to complete the playoffs on court, but again, defer to the health and safety of all of our players, coaches and supporters as the priority and will only return to the court when it is confirmed as safe to do so.
Further updates on on this issue will be posted on this page as they become available. Should any team require more information, please get in touch with league officials here: CONTACT THE CBL
