General Principles

• Respect: Treat everyone with respect, regardless of their role, ability, gender, race, religion, or background.
• Integrity: Act with honesty and integrity at all times, both on and off the court.
• Responsibility: Take responsibility for your actions and their impact on others.
• Safety: Prioritise the safety and well-being of yourself and others.
• Fair Play: Promote fair play and uphold the spirit of the game.

For Players

As a member of the Brent Panthers Basketball Club youth team, I agree to abide by the following Code of Conduct:

Respect and Sportsmanship

• I will treat all players, coaches, officials, and spectators with respect, regardless of race, gender, age, or ability.
• I will display good sportsmanship at all times, both on and off the court.

Commitment and Attendance

• I will attend all practices, games, and team events to the best of my ability. If I am unable to attend, I will inform my coach in advance.
• I will be punctual and ready to participate.

Positive Attitude and Effort

• I will maintain a positive attitude and give my best effort during practices and games.
• I will encourage and support my teammates, and I will not engage in negative comments or criticism.

Coachability and Learning

• I will listen to and follow the instructions of my coaches.
• I will be open to feedback and strive to learn and improve my skills.
• I will ask questions when I need clarification.

Teamwork and Unselfishness

• I will prioritise the team's success over individual achievements.
• I will work collaboratively with my teammates and make unselfish plays on the court.

Respect for Facilities and Equipment

• I will treat all facilities, equipment, and property with respect.
• I will clean up after myself and help maintain a tidy environment.
• I will report any damage or issues to my coach.

Academic Responsibility

• I understand that academic performance is a priority.
• I will maintain good grades and attend to my studies.
• I will communicate with my coach if I need assistance balancing basketball and academics.

Substance Abuse and Healthy Lifestyle

• I will not use or possess alcohol, tobacco, drugs, or performance-enhancing substances.
• I will make healthy choices to support my physical and mental well-being.

Social Media and Online Conduct

• I will use social media responsibly and respectfully.
• I will not post or share content that is inappropriate, offensive, or harmful to others.
• I will represent the club positively online.

Reporting Concerns

• If I witness or experience any behaviour that violates this Code of Conduct or makes me feel unsafe, I will report it to my coach, the Club Welfare Officer, or another trusted adult.

For Coaches

As a coach of Brent Panthers Basketball Club, you are expected to:

• Lead by example and demonstrate positive behaviour and sportsmanship.
• Provide a safe and supportive environment for players to develop their skills and enjoy basketball.
• Treat all players equally and with respect, regardless of their ability.
• Communicate effectively and constructively with players, parents, and officials.
• Plan and deliver training sessions that are challenging, enjoyable, and appropriate for the age and ability of the players.
• Promote and uphold the club’s safeguarding policies and procedures.
• Keep up to date with coaching qualifications and best practices.

For Officials

As an official of Brent Panthers Basketball Club, you are expected to:

• Officiate games impartially and fairly, in accordance with the rules of basketball.
• Show respect for all players, coaches, and spectators.
• Communicate decisions clearly and confidently.
• Maintain control of the game and manage any conflicts or issues that arise.
• Ensure player safety is a priority at all times.
• Avoid any conflicts of interest and maintain professional conduct.

For Parents and Spectators

As a parent or spectator of Brent Panthers Basketball Club, you are expected to:

• Encourage and support all players, including opponents, in a positive manner.
• Respect the decisions of coaches and officials.
• Refrain from using abusive or inappropriate language and behaviour.
• Support the club’s efforts to create a safe and enjoyable environment for all participants.
• Lead by example in promoting fair play and sportsmanship.
• Communicate any concerns or issues to the club officials in a respectful and constructive manner.

For Volunteers

As a volunteer of Brent Panthers Basketball Club, you are expected to:

• Support the club’s activities and events in a positive and proactive manner.
• Treat all members of the club with respect and consideration.
• Follow the club’s policies and procedures, including safeguarding and health and safety guidelines.
• Communicate effectively and collaborate with other volunteers, staff, and members.
• Represent the club in a professional and positive manner at all times.

Breaches of the Code of Conduct

Brent Panthers Basketball Club takes breaches of the Code of Conduct seriously. Any member or affiliate found to be in breach of this Code may face disciplinary action, which could include:

• A verbal or written warning.
• Suspension from club activities.
• Expulsion from the club.

All disciplinary matters will be handled in accordance with the club’s disciplinary procedures, ensuring fairness and transparency.
