COHENEL's Emmanuel Omosanya has been named as a double league MVP (Most Valuable Player) in the CBL, London's biggest basketball league. The awards have been announced in light of COHENEL winning both the U18 and Senior Men's divisions in the CBL, for the 2019/20 season, an unprecedented feat for the Academy, behind the inspired play from Omosanya.
The talented guard led the league in scoring in the U18's division, while winning multiple game MVP honours in the Senior Men's division. Winning the MVP awards across both divisions has never been achieved by any player in the history of the CBL, which stands as testament to the ability Omosanya possesses and the progress made in his time at COHENEL.
The CBL Senior Men's division was filled with former BBL professional players, National League proven champions and high-flying, high-profile names from throughout the London basketball circuit - so to be named as the most outstanding player at that level of competition speaks volumes about how far the young North Londoner has come in his quest to be the best.
"Emmanuel is a bright prospect that coaches should take note of, as he's proven in both the under 18 and men's divisions this season. For him to shine in the men's division, he's had to outplay some seriously talented grown men, which cannot be overstated. It's an impressive achievement."
- Steve Whyte, CBL Co-Commissioner
Omosanya's inspired play led the Warriors to a perfect 6-0 record in the U18's division and a league-best 5-1 record in the men's division, before both leagues had to be cut short because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
"Eman is fearless. He doesn't back down from the competition, no matter who is matched up against. He definitely proved himself in the league this season. Winning MVP in two separate divisions is beyond what I or anyone would have expected. Not because of his ability, but you have to remember, he's still young, going up against grown men in the men's division - and guys who can really play. But ultimately he got it done in between the lines and proved he's for real, game after game and I know he's worked for everything he's ever gotten, so I'm very happy for him ."
- AJ Roberts, Head Coach
The CBL is London's biggest basketball league, with over 1,000 players competing across multiple age groups, representing 25 different boroughs across the capital. The league has grown into the real 'pulse' of London basketball, often providing the stage from which future stars first emerge.
